Homemade Sugar Scrubs for Different Type of Skins

sugar

There is a wide array of skin problems that most people have experienced over the years.  Some of the most typical skin issues are dry skin, oiliness, and lesions. Treating these skin problems with commercialized products out in the market is a stereotypical practice for most of us. That is given because we have the propensity to be lured by the way companies advertise their products. Even if in most cases these products do not really work. Imagine the money we are spending and getting nothing from it.

As a result, people are now searching for an alternative approach in skin treatment. A method in which the end product is less chemically made, more suited with our skin types and more affordable than those products available in all local stores. This new approach focuses in using raw products that are normally found in the comforts of our home. With that being said, a specific raw product is already making its name out in the open and that is – sugar.

Who said that sugar is only good in making different concoctions? Indeed, sugar adds sweetness in our coffee and pastries but little did we know that sugar could also be used in creating our own recipes for treating the never-ending problems with our skin.

Did you know that?

Sugar is an all-natural humectant that keeps our skin hydrated and moisturized. It is also an excellent source of an Alpha Hydroxy Acid called Glycolic Acid. This type of AHA acid treats aging skin and skin that is damage by direct sunlight. Lastly, due to its small granules, sugar is a great choice for exfoliation, removing the dead skin cells from our skin and revealing the natural glow.

In order to take advantage of the several benefits of using sugar, here are some recipes you could try making at home:

Homemade Scrubs for Dry and Oily Skin

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons of Olive Oil (make use of the Extra Virgin one)
  • 3 tablespoons of regular or organic honey (any of the two will do)
  • 1 cup of regular or organic sugar (any of the two will do)

Procedure:

  1. Get a container with lid. If you are about to use a recycled container for this recipe, you have to make sure to wash it thoroughly. Clean all remaining residue inside the container and use a towel to dry.
  2. Pour the 4 tablespoons of your oil in the container.
  3. After the oil, pour the 3 tablespoons of honey in the container as well.
  4. Finally, add the main ingredient (sugar) into the mixture and mix it well by using a stirring rod or a chopstick.

You do not have to follow the amounts of the ingredients because you can always adjust the ratio to your liking. Store the end product in a room temperature, not in the fridge because you do not want your mixture to harden.

How to Apply:

  1. You need to rinse your face and body.
  2. Scoop some from the mixture and apply it over the face and body.
  3. Make sure to scrub it in a circular motion.
  4. Leave it for a minute before rinsing.

This recipe is advisable to individuals with dry skin, oily skin or both. For those who have a sensitive type of skin, you may use it once in a week but for the rest, you may use it twice in a week.

Homemade Scrubs for Aging Skin

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of white, cane or brown sugar (any of the three will do)
  • 10 tablespoons of any coffee that is readily available at home
  • ½ cup of almond oil (you may also use olive oil)
  • 2 teaspoon of each extracts (Peppermint and Vanilla)

Procedure:

  1. Get a container with lid. If you are about to use a recycled container for this recipe, you have to make sure to wash it thoroughly. Clean all remaining residue inside the container and use a towel to dry.
  2. Add the sugar and mix it with the preferred coffee.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients, almond oil and the extracts.
  4. Mix all the ingredients by using a spoon or a stirring rod.

If at the end, your mixture is a bit watery, add more sugar and coffee. Use the mixture same as your regular mud scrub. For those who have a sensitive type of skin, use brown sugar and do not add coffee in the recipe.

Homemade Scrubs for Sensitive but Dry Skin

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of brown or white sugar
  • 3 tablespoon of Ginger Extract
  • 2 tablespoon of Sunflower Oil
  • 2 tablespoon of Almond Oil

  2. Put the brown or white sugar in the container.
  3. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix them well.

Use the mixture same as your regular scrub. You may use the mixture once or twice a week.

Homemade Scrubs for Normal Skin

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of Cane Sugar
  • ¼ cup of Sea Salt (it would be better if you will use Celtic sea salt for this)
  • ¾ cup of Coconut Oil
  • 4 tablespoonfuls of Almond Oil
  • Vitamin E extract
  • Few Drops of an Essential Oil (this is optional and pick your own scent)

Procedure:

  1. Get a container with lid. If you are about to use a recycled container for this recipe, you have to make sure to wash it thoroughly. Clean all remaining residue inside the container and use a towel to dry.
  2. Add the cane sugar and sea salt in the container.
  3. Add the oils as well.
  4. With the Vitamin E extract, you can put 1 teaspoon into the mixture.
  5. Add the essential oil of your choice. Then mix it well.

In using an essential oil, make sure you check the label for the concentration value because excessive use of this type of oil might have an adverse effect on your skin.

Making the most out of the raw ingredients accessible in any household has many benefits. It does not only save money but it also gives you a healthier option. It may take a while before noticing changes as your body is accustomed with chemically made products. Just wait and enjoy.
